Obituary

William Howard Swan, age 96, of Curwensville, died Tuesday, June 27, 2012 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center. He was born 1915 in Berwinsdale, to John Thomas and Effie Elizabeth Davis Swan. Mr. Swan was a retired coal miner with the R and P Coal Co. He was also an ordained minister and served as Pastor of the Fairview Baptist Church, LaJose RD, and the Clymer Baptist Church, Sabinsville. Addtionally, in his early years he taught and preached with the American Sunday School Union in Indiana Co. Finally, in his retirement years he served as a supply Pastor at various Independent and Baptist Churches in Indiana, Clearfield, and Armstrong Counties. His life touched many with his unselfish devotion to the cause of Christ. Mr. Swan was an outdoor enthusiast enjoying hunting, fishing, and gardening. William is survived by one son and two daughters, David Swan and wife Jeannie, Kennesaw, GA; Susan Read and husband Fred, Curwensville; Judy Boyer and husband Dave, Rural Valley; one step-daughter, Janice Keener and husband Allen, Kittanning; six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Also surviving are One sister and three brothers, Kathryn Lytle, Altoona; Harold Swan and wife Naomi, Mahaffey; Robert Swan and wife Margie, Lockport, NY; Kenneth Swan and wife Virginia, Lockport, NY; two sisters-in-law, Katherine "Betty" Swan, Medina, NY; Margaret Swan, Homer City; one brother-in-law, Robert Laing, Coalport; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his first wife Harriet Houser Swan in 1976, by his second wife Virginia Bowser McHaddon Swan in 1999, by his daughter Carol Jean Swan in 1997, and by the following brothers and sisters, Forest "Forky", Clair "Skinny", and Charles Swan, Grace Christy, Lois Laing, and Eleanor Swan. Friends will be received on Friday from 3 to 8 P.M. and on Saturday from 9:30 to 11 A.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where a funeral service will begin at 11 A.M. with the Rev. Mark Thomas officiating. Interment will be made in the Fairview Cemetery, LaJose, Clearfield Co.
