Obituary

William M. Stiteler, Jr., age 96, of Indiana, died Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Sunrise Assisted Living Facility in Wilmington, DE. He was born in 1915 in Smicksburg, to William M. Stiteler, Sr. and Edna Larue (Fetters) Stiteler. Mr. Stiteler was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux R. C. Church, the American Legion, and a Golden Member of the Society of American Foresters. Bill received his degree in Forestry from The Penn State Univ., and was a member of the 1936 two-mile relay track team that won the National Championship. Mr. Stiteler was a veteran of WW II having served in the US Army. He was employed as a forester for 40 years with the US Forest Service in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, and after retiring he worked as a consultant in Indiana and surrounding counties. He was a resident of Indiana since 1978. Bill is survived by his wife of 71 years, F. Elaine (Carter) Stiteler, Indiana; one daughter and five sons, Mary L. Wick and husband Paul, Wilmington, DE; William M., III, and wife Jeannette, Tully, NY; Richard L. and wife Thavone, Tempe, AZ; John A., Wilmington, DE; Daniel B. and wife Lynn, Wilmington, DE; Geoffrey W. and wife Mayumi, Honolulu, HI; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, S. Max Stiteler, and by two sisters, Eva Mae Warden, and Louise Grimsley. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 A.M. at St. Bernard of Clairvaux R.C. Church, Indiana, with the Rev. Fr. Donald the celebrant. Entombment will be made in the St. Bernard Mausoleum.
