William L. Wunder, PhD, age 72 of Indiana, died Saturday, December 17, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his wife and children.
He was born in 1944 in Philadelphia to Lloyd W. and Mary E. Rexer Wunder and spent his early years in Beach Haven, NJ. While attending Southern Regional High School , he was Senior Class President and earned All State Football Honors.
He was a graduate of Millersville University with a BS degree in Industrial Arts. Mr. Wunder taught in the Myerstown area, Juneau Alaska, Tyrone Area School District, West Branch Area School District in Morrisdale, DuBois Area School District, and Keystone Central School District, Lock Haven.
He earned his Masters and PhD from Penn State University in Educational Administration. As a student he was recognized by the Phi Delta Kappa International Fraternity in Education. He began his administrative career for Keystone Central School District as an Assistant Principal and Principal. He became high school Principal and later Superintendent for Clearfield Area School District . While there he received Commendation for Excellence in Administration and Supervision.
Bill was a member of F&AM Masonic Lodge, Tyrone, the Indiana Country Club, where he loved to golf, and the Harmony Grove Lutheran Church, Willet.
Surviving is his wife Kathy Myers Wunder, PhD, Indiana; two sons and one daughter, C. Andrew Wunder, Creekside; W. David Wunder and wife Tiffany, Tyrone; Sarah J. Ewing and husband Bill, Tyrone; eight grandchildren, Taylor, DJ, Christian, Gaige, Trinity, Olivia, Braden, Rachel; one sister, Jean C. Smith, Westerly, RI; one niece Suzanne Vanaman; one nephew Scott Vanaman and wife Anariliz.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson A. Alexander Wunder.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana , where a funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 A.M. with the Pastor David Wasemann and Pastor William Ewing officiating. Interment will be made in the Harmony Grove Lutheran Cemetery .
Memorial contributions may be made to the Harmony Grove Lutheran Church , 6584 Five Points Rd. , Creekside, PA 15732; or donate a book to a school where he worked.
