William R. Gerber Sr.'s Obituary

William Richard Gerber, Sr., age 82, of Shelocta, died Friday, March 18, 2011 at his home. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Asera Care, especially Pam Stump who's loving care was appreciated. He was born in 1928 in Moss Creek, to William H. and Geraldine Griffith Gerber. Mr. Gerber was a member of the Ernest Bible Church. A veteran of WW II, he served in the US Army. He was employed as a coal miner for the R and P Coal Co. and the Helen Mining Co. for 39 years. He was also a self-employed farmer. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a long time host at Clear Creek State Park Campgrounds, and also served as a trustee for the Union Cemetery. He is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Cribbs and husband James, Shelocta; Carol Hinton and husband John, Indiana; Jean Fancella and husband John, Shelocta; six grandchildren, Kevin Cribbs and wife Danielle; BethAnn Linder and husband Matt; John Fancella, OH; Michael Cribbs and Melissa; David Jamison and wife Kirstan; Bryan Fancella and wife Stacy; 14 great grandchildren, Andy, Josh, Andrew, Jared, Tony, Chris, Brandon, Ben, Zach, Nathan, Ashly, Adam, Joselle, and Bella; two brothers and two sisters, Thomas Gerber and wife Shirley, Ernest; Robert Gerber and wife Mary, Sigel; Dorothy George and husband Bill, Shelocta; Donna Genetto and husband Tony, Apollo; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife Anna Byers Gerber in 2003, and by his son William R. Gerber, Jr. in 2009. Friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where a funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 A.M. with Pastor John Sykes officiating. Interment will be made in the Union Cemetery, Shelocta.
