Obituary

Violet Louise Jewart Stewart, 78, of Indiana, died June 26, 2013, at her residence. She was the daughter of Avery Weston and Vernie Hazel (Orr) Jewart and was born on January 9, 1935, on the Herbert Jewart farm in Washington Twp. Mrs. Stewart graduated from the Indiana Area High School in 1953. She worked at Taylor's Gift Shop, Robert Shaw, Fisher Scientific and retired as a ticketer from Hills Department Store in 1992. Mrs. Stewart enjoyed travel, bus trips, polka music, quilting, embroidery, playing her guitar and accordion, gardening and canning. She avidly read her Bible, attended First Baptist Church, Indiana, and was formerly a member of Friends in Faith Baptist Church and Calvary Evangelical Free Church. She was also a member of the Musician's Union, the Jimmy Sturr fan club, Woodman of the World and United Commercial Travelers. She is survived by her husband, Charles Edwin Stewart, whom she married on December 30, 1955, and two daughters, Joyce R. Hill and her husband, Ralph, Rossiter; and Sonya Stewart, Pittsburgh; grandson, Edward Donald Hoyt IV; sisters, Mrs. Donald (Cora) Brewer and Mrs. Lewis (Shirley) Hamil; sister-in-law, Ruth McCunn; brother-in-law, Cyrus Smith; and special nieces, Debbie Barr and Doris Roush. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Rankin and her husband, Ronald Rankin; and several sisters and brothers-in law. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Friday, June 28 and from 10-11 am on Saturday, June 29 at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where the funeral service will be held at 11 am with Pastor Albert Kodman officiating. Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Family Hospice of Indiana County, 850 Hospital Road, Medical Arts Building Suite 3000, Indiana, PA 15701.
