Thomas G. Coyne's Obituary

Thomas G. Coyne, age 87, of Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center. He was born in 1927 in Pittsburgh to Martin and Helen Ladley Coyne. Thomas was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church, Indiana, where he served as an usher for many years. He was a life-time member of the Pennsylvania Society, and a life-time member of the VFW Post #1989, Ancient Order of Hibernians, and was active with the Chevy Chase Center. He also served on Governor Ridge's Health Reform Committee and numerous other Republican committees. Thomas served as a delegate to the Republican National Convention from 1988 to 1996. He served as the Indiana County Commissioner Chairman from 1991 to 1994. He also served as Secretary of the Pennsylvania Restaurant Commission for many years. A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army as a medic. He also boxed in the Army and was undefeated. Along with his wife, they owned and operated Coyne's Pub in Indiana for 37 years. Thomas is survived by his wife of 64 years Helen Coyne, Indiana; one daughter, Ann Coyne, Indiana; three grandchildren - Maureen Bock and Nick Steinhiser, New York; James Bock, Jr., Indiana; Bridget Bock, Indiana; one brother Bernard Coyne, Pittsburgh. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his son Thomas G. Coyne Jr. Friends will be received on Friday from 7 to 9 and on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 A.M. at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church, Indiana with the Rev. Fr. Donald Conroy, the celebrant. Interment will be made in the St. Bernard Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be provided by the VFW Post #1989.
