Theodore Ray Allen Sr., 85, died Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at the Orlando Regional Medical Center, Florida. He leaves behind his wife of sixty-four years, Marjorie (Widdowson) Allen; his son - Theodore Jr.; his daughters - Carol Smith, Linda Herritt, Bonnie Hobbs, and Judith Middleton; as well as nine grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Janet Plyler and predeceased by his parents, Gaylord and Grace Allen, of Indiana, PA; his sister, Betty White and his brother, Raymond Allen. After graduating from Indiana High School in 1950, Ted enlisted in the US Army and served in Germany. He and Marjorie married in April of 1954. Ted received his BS degree from Nyack Missionary College, in Nyack, New York, and subsequently earned his Masters in Elementary Education from Oneota College, NY, and his Administration Certification from Westminister College. His career spanned twenty-eight years teaching upper elementary children in Odessa, NY, Kittanning, PA and Virginia Beach, Virginia. Thirteen of those years Ted served as principal in Armstrong County, PA. and Portsmouth, VA.
Education was his love and Ted gave passionately whether in the classroom or administration, driving school bus or coaching basketball, playing softball with neighborhood kids or leading adult Sunday school classes. As a strong supporter of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, he served as an Elder, teacher, and prayer group leader. He served on the board for Child Evangelism Fellowship and was an active Gideon member. He served the Lord wholeheartedly and was a huge advocate for sending missionaries around the world.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 10, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 11, at 11 a.m. at the Indiana Alliance Church, 2510 Warren Road, Indiana, PA.
In lieu of flowers, Ted requested that memorial gifts be sent to the Christian & Missionary Alliance Camp - Mahaffey Camp, Memo: Ted's passion, 1559 Grampian Highway, Mahaffey, PA 15757.
