Samuel Serrian's Obituary

Samuel Serrian, age 92, of Indiana, formerly of Coal Run and Kent, passed away Friday, July 16, 2010 at the home of his son, John in Indiana. He was born January 16, 1918 in Aultman, PA to Santo and Elizabeth Peri Serrian. Mr. Serrian was a former member of the Holy Cross Byzantine Catholic, Coal Run, and was a current member of the Holy Protection of Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Homer City. He was also a member of UMWA Local #1412, the C and Y Sportsman Club, and the Spring Church Beagle Club, and a former member of the Blairsville Sportsman Club and True Blue Indoor Target Shooting Club. He was self-employed as owner/operator of the Holiday Inn Bar/Restaurant on McIntyre Rd. for nearly sixty years, where he became popular for his homemade Pizzas. He was also employed by R and P Coal Co and Keystone Coal Co for nearly 30 years before his retirement in 1985. Additionally, he was employed as a school bus driver for the Elders Ridge and Apollo Ridge School districts for many years. He was also an avid outdoorsman and indoor target shooting enthusiast. Samuel is survived by two sons and two daughters, Samuel A. and wife Phyllis, Port Charlotte, FL; John H., Indiana; Valerie Jean McClure and husband Brad, Clune; Marlea Mroskey and husband Billy, Latrobe; six grandchildren, Michelle West and husband Bobby, Audra Serrian, Samuel Serrian, Nicholas Stewart and wifeTiffany, Sheena Stewart, and Bradley McClure; by one sister Elizabeth Spoto, Rochester, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife Ann E. Protz Serrian in 1999, and by the following siblings, Rose Cannizzaro, Anthony, Jenny Cicola, Mary Colosi, Victoria Sgro, Salvator, John, and an infant sister. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 7 to 9 P.M. and on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where a Parastas service will be held Wednesday at 3 P.M. A prayer service will b e held Thursday at 9:15 A.M. at the funeral home followed by a funeral liturgy at the Holy Protection of Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, Homer City, with the Rev. Fr. Cuthbert Jack the celebrant. Interment will be made in the Oakland Cemetery. The family would like to give special thanks to Heritage Home Health Agency, and Asera Care Hospice, for all their kindness, care, and help for the past five years.
