Ruth Virginia (Chapman) Murtha, 91, of Greensburg, formerly of Indiana, died Thursday, March 3, 2016 at home being comforted by her loving family. Ruth was born in McKeesport in 1924 to the late Samuel W. Chapman and Wanda M. Colditz. She resided in North Huntingdon for over thirty years before moving to Indiana PA in 1984. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother who was very involved with her family. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, and reading. During her membership at the Indiana Country Club she enjoyed ballroom dancing and was an avid bridge player. She was a faithful member of Christ Episcopal Church belonging to the Daughters of the King. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Charles and Dorothy Murtha (father and mother in-law), an infant son William, a son Alvin D. "Tex" Murtha and brothers-in-law, Charles E. Murtha, Jr. and William Markland. She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Alvin D. Murtha, two daughters, Jeanne Zelenak and Jan Murtha of Greensburg, six grandchildren, Darci Noonan (Patrick) Irvine, CA, Lisa Mankins (Craig) Greensburg, Ryan Murtha Asheville, NC, Chad Zelenak Punxsutawney, Michael Murtha Wake Forest, NC, and Jared Murtha (Tiffany) Coraopolis. She is survived by seven great-grandchildren; Robert and Catrina Noonan, Jeffrey, Abigail and Kaitlyn Mankins, and Riley and Cora Murtha. Also surviving is one sister Margaret Markland of North Huntingdon and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to celebrate the life of Ruth at Christ Episcopal Church, 902 Philadelphia Street, Indiana, PA where a service will be conducted by Rev. "Bill" Geiger at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15. As an expression of sympathy, contributions in Ruth's memory can be made to Christ Episcopal Church 902 Philadelphia Street Indiana PA 15701 or Indiana Free Library 845 Philadelphia Street Indiana PA 15701.
