Obituary

Robert D. Anderson, age 68, of Indiana, died Thursday, September 13, 2012 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital. He was born in 1944, to Darl and Marjorie Allison Anderson Bob was a member of the Crete Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, Sunday School Teacher, Recording Secretary, and Choir member. He also volunteered his time for church maintenance, renovations, and landscaping. He was also a life-time member of the Penn State Alumni Assoc., and a member of the National Mine Rescue Assoc. Following retirement he was a volunteer tax preparer with Aging Services, Inc. He was a graduate of Indiana Joint High School in 1962, and graduated with distinction from Penn State in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering. Bob was employed by RandP Coal Co from 1963 to 1999. He began working underground and advanced to President of Keystone Coal Mining Corp. and Helvetia Coal Co. in 1993, both subsidiaries of Rand P Coal Co. He enjoyed caring for his lawn and home, designing and building things, watching sports, and helping his family and others. In particular, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and all their various activities. Robert is survived by one son and one daughter, Pamela Faris and husband David, Indiana; Brian D., Monroeville; two grandchildren, Nathan and Morgan Faris; by his special friend Pamela Smith, Blairsville; one brother and one sister, Richard Anderson and wife Karen and son Ian, Wheeling, WV; Rebecca Cosmano and husband Stephen and son Blake and daughter Sara, Utah; his mother Marjorie Reinard and husband Derald, Homer City; and four half-brothers, Jim, Jeff, Tom, and Randy Reinard. He is also survived by various in-laws with whom he was close, Betty Jones, Kathy and Joseph Boyer and daughter Trisha; Kathy Jones Mihoerck and son and daughter Michael and Amanda. He was preceded in death by his father, and by his wife Patricia L. "Jones" Anderson in 2003. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 7 to 9 P.M. and on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where a funeral service will be held Friday at 11 A.M. with Rev. Kathryn Ward Stear officiating. Interment will be made in the Oakland Cemetery, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to Crete Presbyterian Church, 25 Brady Rd., Indiana, PA 15701.
