Obituary

Richard, "Dick" Gordon Malcolm, passed on to eternal peace and rest on Sunday, October 30, 2011 after a sudden illness. He was born in Middletown, New York in 1927 to Alexander Gordan and Grace Pfeiffer Malcolm, and moved to Indiana when he was quite small. Dick is survived by his second wife Marcia Miller Malcolm; two sons, Dennis and wife Sandra Beatty Malcolm; Gregory Malcolm; a daughter, Patricia Malcolm Myers and husband John Myers; six grandchildren, Richard William Malcolm, Deneal Malcolm Justice, Chad Malcolm, Nicole Quinn Coleman, Shannon Quinn Sharrer and Aaron Quinn, ten great grandchildren, two brothers Donald and Raymond Malcolm, a sister Virginia Malcolm Reed and survived by one aunt Stella, and many brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws and nieces and nephews. Richard was a WWII active duty veteran and a past commander of the Indiana VFW Post 1989. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard in the New England area. Richard was an active Boy Scout attaining the Life Scout rank prior to serving his country. Later he served Scouting as a Cubmaster, District Commissioner and as an assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 36, Zion Lutheran Church. His most talked about scouting memory was an Algonquin Canada canoe trip the Troop took back in 1964. Dick was also active in the Indiana area Jaycees, the Toastmasters Club, Pinee-s camping group, square dancing groups, the Indiana Franklin Masonic Lodge # 313 as a Master Mason, The Coudersport Consistory, The Zion Lutheran Church and the American Legion. Richard most enjoyed his membership in the Indiana County Amateur Radio club. His call letters were KA3IYT. Dick was a member of ARRL. He was a long time employee of the McCreary Tire and Rubber Company as well as a member of the United Rubber Workers Union prior to taking a management position in quality control. Richard was co-founder of The Malcolm's House of Flowers floral shop in Indiana when he retired from McCreary Tires. He helped manage the business with his first wife Lula and later with his daughter Patricia Myers. Richard was a 1945 Indiana High School Graduate and a graduate of The Diesel School located in Neville Island. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at the Zion Lutheran Church, Indiana at 11:00 AM with Pastor Brian Miller officiating. Interment will be made in the Oakland Cemetery, Indiana.
