Richard C. King,, Sr.'s Obituary

Richard C. King, Sr., age 85 of Indiana, died on Saturday January 17, 2015 at the Communities of Indian Haven. He was born in 1929 in Indiana to Ira and Miriam McCombs King and grew up in Indiana and Pittsburgh on the top of Mt. Washington. He was a graduate of Indiana High School. Rich was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Indiana, where he served for many years as an usher and served on the church council and chaired the council for one year. He operated heavy equipment for Ed Bennett, Sr. on road construction, and also at Penn Run Limestone Quarry. He retired after working for 26 years for FMC in Homer City and Blairsville. Rich loved the outdoors, animals, gardening and traveling. He and his wife enjoyed many trips around the country. Before personal computers and the internet Rich learned Morse code and became a ham radio operator with the call sign, K3VDF. He communicated with people all around the world. After he retired he could be found on the golf course first thing in the morning. During the cooler weather he would start his day at 5:30 A.M. working out at the "Y" Surviving is his wife of 65 years - Lenora Himes King, Indiana; four daughters - Deborah Ervin and husband Gary, Port Hueneme, CA; Joanne Zendek and husband Steven, Indiana; Dawn Davidson, Indiana; Lanni Seaman and husband Bill, Pittsburgh; one son - Rick, Jr. and wife Bonnie, Indiana; one granddaughter and six grandsons, three great granddaughters, one sister - Roberta "Birdie" Fedder, St. Mary's; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Melissa Marie King, a grandson Steven "Skip" Zendek, his son-in-law David L. Davidson, and two brothers, Eugene and William King. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 2:30 P.M. with Pastor Kathy Mihoerck officiating. Interment will be made in the Oakland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 7th and Church Streets, Indiana, PA 15701 or Communities of Indian Haven, 1675 Saltsburg Ave., Indiana, PA 15701.
