Richard 'Dick' C. Cochran's Obituary

Richard "Dick" C. Cochran, age 71, passed away on May 13, 2015 in Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born in 1944 in Sewickley, to Paul and Mary (Stuchel) Cochran. He graduated from Blairsville High School in 1962 and spent more than 30 years working for R&P Coal Company/Consol before retiring. He later started his own water system business - RJM Water Systems. He was also a member of Hopewell Methodist Church. On March 5, 1965, Dick married the love of his life, Naomi (Smyers) Cochran. Throughout their 50-year marriage, they set an incredible example of loving partners for their children and others. Among his many joys was car racing, restoring tractors, spending time at the Outer Banks, working on projects for his family and gardening. He was known for growing hundreds of pounds of vegetables each year, especially his giant sweet potatoes. Dick enjoyed sharing his garden with his many friends and neighbors. In addition to his loving wife, Dick's memory and love will be treasured by his children - Rick Cochran and his wife, Terry, of Harrisburg; Jeff Cochran and his fiancé, Anne Marie Kirkessner, of Annville; and Melissa Simora and her husband, Joe, of Lancaster. One of his favorite titles was "Pappy" to his two grandchildren, Colin and Grace, whom he loved very much. Among the many friends and family in his life, Dick was especially close to his beloved cousin Beverly Akins and her husband Ted; incredible neighbor Mary Taylor; and family members Floyd and Donna Dunmire, Barb Smyers and many more. Their help and comfort throughout his lengthy struggle was more than could ever be imagined. Throughout his life, Dick was especially fond of his dogs. Everyone who knew him understands how close he was to his constant companions - Sophie and Rosie. Preceding Dick in death were his parents and two brothers, James and Robert. He is also survived by two sisters, Marilyn Bruner and Carolyn Good. Friends will be received on Friday from 6 to 8 P.M. and on Saturday from 9 to 11 A.M. and from 2 to 3 P.M., where a funeral service will begin at 3 P.M. with the Rev. Brett Dinger officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dick's memory can be made to AgrAbility for Pennsylvania, 207 Ferguson Building, University Park, PA 16802.
