Paul E. "Hootch" Starry, age 93 of Indiana, died Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center.

He was born in 1923 in Indiana to William Ellsworth and Bertha Palmer Starry.

He was a member of the US Army during WW II, serving in the European Theater of War in the Field Artillery. In recognition of that service, he received a letter from President Harry Truman, one of only 200 written, and was awarded a Bronze Star from the Government of France. Paul was a life member of the VFW Post #1989, AMVETS, and a member of the American Legion, Indiana.

He was employed by Creps United Publications in the shipping and mailing department for 45 years.

Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, watching old Westerns, and his hero was John Wayne. He was a kind man who never failed to lend a helping hand.

He is survived by his daughter, Janice L. Starry, Indiana; man's best friend, Kirby; one sister and two brothers; Betty Hutchinson, Indiana; Bob Starry and wife Helen, McAdoo, PA; Doyle Starry and wife Rachel, Punxsutawney; and by many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Evelyn Moretti Starry in 2001, his sister, Waneta Bell, and his brother, Wm. "Ted" Starry.

Friends will be received on Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where a Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be made in Greenwood Cemetery where the VFW Post #1989 will provide military honors.
