Obituary

Mary Violanti Chelgren, 85, of Indiana, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov 30, 2013 surrounded by close friends and family. Mary was born on March 19, 1928 in Giuliano di Roma, Italy. She was the daughter of Severino and Assunta (Anticoli) Violanti. Mary came to the U.S. when she was 9 yrs old and was raised in Clearfield, Pa. She was a graduate of Clearfield High School, Class of 1947 and later became a licensed cosmetologist. She then owned and operated her own beauty shop in Clearfield, Pa. In 1963 she married Gus G. Chelgren from Grampian, Pa and they later moved to Indiana, Pa to raise their family. She was a member of the St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Parish. Mary enjoyed reading, traveling, playing pinochle, and loved to talk politics. She was a devoted wife, mother, and Nonna and will be missed dearly. Mary leaves to cherish her memories her loving and devoted husband of 50 years, Gus G. Chelgren (Indiana, Pa); children: Gus J. Chelgren (Indiana, Pa), Rina Chelgren Mlnarik and her husband Brian Mlnarik (Bellevue, NE); grandchildren: Alexandra Chelgren, Jenna Mlnarik, and Jason Mlnarik; and many nieces, nephews and distant relatives from her hometown of Giuliano, which always had a special place in her heart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Josephine Centra, her brother Genio Violanti, and her infant brother Antonio Violanti. Friends will be received Tuesday from 1-3 p.m and 7-9 p.m. at the Bowser-Minich, Inc. Funeral Home 500 Ben Franklin Road South Indiana, Pa. A funeral Mass will be held Weds at 10:30 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church 212 South Front Street, Clearfield, Pa. Committal services and interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
