Joseph C. Sturiale's Obituary

Joseph C. Sturiale, 88, of Indiana, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Moorehead House, Indiana. He was born in 1926 to Gaetano and Mary (Allegra) Sturiale in Indiana. Joe was a carpenter for 33 years, before his retirement. He was a member of Carpenters Local #1419 in Johnstown. Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed woodworking, reading about United States History, gardening and financial publications. Joe was an avid supporter of products made in the USA. He liked watching football especially Penn State and the Steelers. Joe was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Merchant Marines. He is survived by two sons - Charles J. Sturiale and wife Wendy, Blairsville, PA; Anthony G. Sturiale and wife Carol, Tannersville, PA; three step-daughters - Patricia Fertita and husband Anthony, Royal Oak, MI; Nancy Norton, West Bloomfield, MI; Cerise Burris and husband Eric, Rochester Hills, MI; grandchildren - Valarie Sturiale-Higgins and husband Brian; Chelsea Steigert and husband John; Vanessa Sturiale and fiancée John Ott; Christa Lockard and husband Garry; Casey Carnahan and husband Adam; Shannon Zdun and husband Rick, Dean Fertita and wife Bonni; great grandchildren - Ava Catherine Higgins, Jack Steigert, Josie and Griffin Zdun, and two sisters - Thelma Sturiale and Elaine Holmes, both of Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6-9 PM and from 10-11 AM Thursday at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday at the funeral home, with Terry Semsick officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by Indiana VFW Post 1989. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Indiana County VNA/Hospice, 850 Hospital Road, Suite 3000, Indiana, PA 15701.
