Obituary

John S. Weakland, age 100, of Indiana, died Thursday, June 9, 2011 at his home. He was born in 1911 in Patton, to Samuel Levi and Maude Dillon Weakland. Mr. Weakland was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux R.C. Church, and the LOOM Lodge #174 since 1946. During WW II, he was employed in the Navy shipyards in San Pedro, CA. He returned to Indiana and was employed as a cutter and carver with Woodburn Monuments in Indiana, retiring at the age of 72. John was a resident of Indiana since 1932. John enjoyed exercising, gardening, dancing, home repair, and football. The family would like to send special thanks to Brandon, Charlie, Jene, Kate, Sally, Smithy, and Tracy. He is survived by two daughters, Sally W. Souchock, Indiana; Susan J. Weakland, Chicago, IL; one granddaughter, Morgan Souchock Christopher and husband Terry, Las Vega, NV; three great grandchildren, John Derrick, Addison, and Berkley; one sister Caroline Smith, Murrysville. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife Anna Tait Weakland in 1987, by six brothers and three sisters, Morgan Airhart, George Airhart, Sylvester Airhart, Basil Weakland, Adrian Weakland, Edgar Weakland, Marie Rhodes, Amy Flood, Romaine Weakland, and by his son-in-law John F. Souchock, Jr. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 A.M. at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church with his nephew and Godson, Arch Bishop Rembert Weakland, the celebrant. Interment will be made in the St. Bernard Cemetery.
