Obituary

John F. Thayer, age 54, of Indiana, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014 at Indiana Regional Medical Center, following a long hard fought battle with Multiple Sclerosis. The family would like to thank Dr. Roberto Turnbull and Dr. Imran Bajwa for their care for John over many years. He was born in 1959 in Indiana, to Robert C. and Diane Calabrese Thayer. John was a graduate of Indiana Area High School where he was a member of the undefeated football high school team of 1976. He was nominated for the Big 33 team. He attended IUP where he also played football and was an art major. John worked as a gas well tender for a few companies, and was also self-employed building decks for various homeowners. He enjoyed sports, hunting, fishing, and all things outdoor, including camp. He is survived by two children, Jacy Thayer, and Jay Thayer, both of Indiana; his mother Diane of Indiana; two brothers, Robert Thayer and wife Gail, Charlotte, NC; David Thayer, New Stanton; two nieces, Caitlin Thayer, Pittsburgh; Christina Thayer, Greensburg; two aunts, Patricia Miller and husband Steve, FL; Connie Walker and husband Fred, OH; two uncles, Dennis Calabrese, FL; Don Thayer and wife Debbie, Indiana; numerous cousins; and numerous special friends. He was preceded in death by his father, paternal grandparents, Franklin and Mildred Thayer, maternal grandparents, John and Amilia Calabrese. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday at 1:30 P.M. at St. Bernard of Clairvaux R.C., Indiana, with the Rev. Timothy Kruthaupt the celebrant. Interment will be made in the St. Bernard Cemetery. The Bowser-Minich Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
