John Charles 'Chuck' Mears' Obituary

John Charles "Chuck" Mears, 81, of Home, was called to heaven on Wednesday, August 29, 2018.
Chuck was born in 1936 in Rayne Township to Charles Ellsworth and Myrtle (Edwards) Mears. A 1954 graduate of Marion Center High School, he was raised on a dairy farm. Chuck was self-employed at Mears Coal Company and returned to farming later in life.
Once retired, he enjoyed woodworking, creating hand-crafted wooden furniture, toys, clocks, jewelry boxes, and many other pieces which are enjoyed and cherished by his family. He designed and crafted many 4-H signs for members of his extended family that have been displayed at local fairs. Chuck was a generous and giving man and loved by his family.
Chuck was an active life-time member of the Tanoma United Methodist Church where he served many offices throughout his life. He trusted in Jesus' completed work on the cross and acknowledged that he was a blessed man. His devotion to family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carole Jean (Short) Mears, who he married on June 12, 1956.; three sons and one daughter - James and wife Sylvia, Home; Ronald and wife Ronda, Indiana; Kathy Mack and husband Brian, Marion Center; Thomas and wife Pamela, Marion Center; nine grandchildren - Michelle Niehenke and husband Dustin, Pittsburgh; Nicole Arnold and husband Chris, Irvine, CA; Ryan Mears, Pittsburgh; Veronica and Blake Mears, Indiana; Jeffrey Mack, Pittsburgh; Kayla Beatty and husband Andrew, Johnstown, Tara Posa and husband Joseph, Rochester Mills, and Ashley Mears, Latrobe; one great-granddaughter- Kira; six great grandsons - Hayden, Luca, and Asher Niehenke, Landon Arnold, and Ethan and Mason Posa. Two additional great-grandchildren are expected in December 2018 and January 2019.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Ruth Martin and Ethel Grace Pollock, and one brother, Edward.
Friends will be received on Saturday from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM as well as on Sunday from 1 to 2 PM at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. A celebration of Chuck's life will be held on Sunday at 2 PM at the funeral home with Pastors Kendra Balliet and Jude Urso officiating. Interment will be made in the Oakland Cemetery.
