John M. Mcmillen's Obituary

John M. McMillen, age 92, of Marion Center, died Monday, March 7, 2011 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center. He was born in 1918 in S. Mahoning Twp., to Samuel A. and Emma Martin McMillen. Mr. McMillen was a member of the Punxsutawney Alliance Church for 63 years, having served as Elder and on the Board for more than 30 yrs. He was a director for 35 years with the Indiana County Conservation District, and was currently District Director Emeritus. John was also past president of the Indiana County Cooperative Extension, 4-H Leader, a charter member of the Indiana County PA Farm Bureau, and received awards from the many agricultural organizations with which he was involved. He was a life time self-employed dairy farmer on a "Century Farm" in Rayne Twp. In his retirement he was active in agriculture seed sales. John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen M. Plyler McMillen, Marion Center, five children, Connie Spidell and husband Gary, Home; Sharon Wild and husband Donald, Great Valley, NY; William McMillen and wife Karen, Marion Center; Robert McMillen and wife Judith, Palmyra; Julie Anne Spencer and husband Brian, Indiana; 14 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters, Howard, Richard, Mary Minser, Ruth Harman, and Jane Brocious. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends will be received on Thursday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 9 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. Friends will also be received on Friday from 10 to 11 A.M. at the Punxsutawney Alliance Church, where a funeral service will begin at 11 A.M. with the Pastor John Buchman officiating. Private interment will be made in the Marion Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Punxsutawney Alliance Church Building Fund, 1307 S. Main St., Ext., Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
