Obituary

James T. Smith, 51, of Parkwood, has gone to soar with the heavenly eagles on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Indiana Regional Medical Center with his family by his side. He was born in 1963 to Harry "John" and Carol (Silvis) Smith in Indiana. Jim attended the Church of the Good Shepherd. He was retired from Iron Workers Local #3, Pittsburgh. Jim was a member of the Shelocta Sportsman Club, North American Hunting Club, Mosquito Creek Sportsman's Association, Frenchville, and Pennsylvania Predator Hunters' Association. He enjoyed everything in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, shooting his many guns, watching NASCAR, his big black dog Rosko, spending time with his family, friends and especially his grandchildren. Jim was first diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2006 and was cancer free until 2012; at which time, he was then diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia that he had courageously fought for the last two years. He will be greatly missed yet truly admired for his awesome strength, amazing courage, and positive attitude through it all. He is survived by his soul mate, best friend, and loving wife of 23 years - Joann (Csanyi-Shankle) Smith, Parkwood; two daughters - Vicki Shankle-Kilgore and husband Alan, Sagamore; Brooke Smith-Stiffler and husband Patric, Indiana; two grandchildren - Lilly and Brayden Kilgore; his parents; two brothers - Jeff Smith and wife Sharon, Shelocta; Doug Smith and wife Margaret, Shelocta; brother-in-law - Denny Csanyi and wife Sherry, Blairsville; sister-in-law - Denise Ciako and husband Joe, Kent; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, special friends, and his dog Rosko. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law Joseph Csanyi and his mother-in-law Louise Zona-Csanyi. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3-7 PM at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, Jim's wishes are for family and friends to pay it forward by donating blood or contributing to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, River Walk Corporate Center, 333 East Carson Street, Suite 441, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
