Obituary

James Edward Farabaugh, age 84, of Indiana, died November 30, 2011, at Beacon Ridge Nursing Home. Jim was born in 1927 in Pine Township, Indiana County, to Celestine and Josephine Phillips Farabaugh, where he was raised on his family farm outside Heilwood. Jim was a graduate of the Pine Twp. High School, Indiana State Teachers College, and received his Master's Degree at University of Pittsburgh, where he continued there with post graduate studies. Jim served with the United States Army in WW II with C Troop, 7th Calvary Regiment, 1st Calvary Division, which served as the occupation force in Japan. Jim was a life member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church where he served on parish council and as an Extraordinary Minister. He was also a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a life member, Honor Guard member, and past commander of the VFW Post #1989, life member of the Disabled American Veterans, member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and held board memberships with Aging Services, Inc. and Indiana Guidance Center. Jim was employed as a Social Studies teacher at Pine Twp. High School for four years, (which became Penns Manor School District), then become a guidance counselor for 37 years at United High School, retiring in 1993. Jim was a master gardener, who devoted his life to serving his family, his church, his community and especially its veterans. Jim's other passion was hunting with his son David. Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathryn Bender Farabaugh, Indiana; two daughters and one son, Lisa Farabaugh, Clinton, MD; Ann Zampolin and husband Ronald, Briarcliff Manor, NY; David M. Farabaugh and wife Audra, Homer City; five grandchildren, Ronald James, Katherine, Matthew and Daniel Zampolin, and William James Farabaugh; the following siblings, Mildred Schaffer, Philadelphia; Marian Creps, Indiana; Ruth Rydberg and husband Ted, Spring Hill, FL; Donald and wife Joan, Columbia, MD; Rose Mary Taylor and husband Dennis, Hudson, OH; Thomas and wife Martha, Punxsutawney; and step-brother Francis Duncan and wife Della, Apopka, FL. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, by his step-mother Mabel Duncan Farabaugh, and by a sister Geraldine Weiland. Friends will be received on Friday, December 2nd from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where a parish Vigil service will be held at 3:45 P.M. The Knights of Columbus will participate in the evening visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 3rd at 11 A.M. at St. Bernard of Clairvaux R.C. Church, Indiana, with the Rev. Fr. William J. Kiel as the celebrant. Interment will follow at the St. Bernard Cemetery, Indiana. The VFW Post #1989 will provide military honors at the church.
