Obituary

Horace M. Steele, 91 of Marion Center went to be with the Lord Friday September 21, 2012 while surrounded by his family. He was born in 1921 to Lester D. and Mary (Hopkins) Steele in Rayne Twp, Indiana County. Horace was a much loved member of the Gilgal Presbyterian Church, Marion Center, where he taught Sunday School, served as a Trustee, Elder, and Clerk of Session. He was a member of Gilgal Cemetery Association, member and treasurer of Mahoning Cemetery Association, Rochester Mills Rod and Gun Club and Rochester Mills International Order of Odd Fellows Association. Horace was a retired dairy farmer, a sales representative for Hoffman Seed Company, a school bus driver for Marion Center School District and a former school director in East Mahoning Twp. He enjoyed working at the Indiana County Fair performing various jobs around the fair grounds. Horace was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. In his retired years he enjoyed keeping up his farm. Throughout his life he always put his friends and family first. He is survived by two daughters and three sons, Nancy Pearce and husband Timothy, Punxsutawney; William D. and wife Dana, Georgeville; David B. and wife Shari, Ann Arbor, MI; Ellen S. Buterbaugh and husband Jeffery, Indiana; Robert J., Marion Center; Grandchildren, Katie Doverspike and husband Steven; Jessi and Timothy Pearce; Naomi and Sarah Buterbaugh and Seth Steele; Jesse Plummer; and five great grandchildren; a brother Donald Steele and wife Alberta, Marion Center; and a sister Marjorie Mikesell and husband Thomas, Blairsville; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Elkin, Dayton and Louise Shank, Indiana, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Evelyn Streams Steele on September 5, 2001. Friends will be received at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday at Gilgal Presbyterian Church from 10:00 AM to time of service. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Gilgal Presbyterian Church,
