Obituary

Helen Virginia Pina, age 84 died Thursday, April 3, 2014 peacefully, surrounded by her family at the Indiana Regional Medical Center. She was born in1929 in Cove Gap, WV to Clyde Dyer and Thelma Elliott Dyer Elkin. Helen was a graduate of Wayne County High School, West Virginia. While attending Indiana Business College she worked in the ticket booth of the Manos Theater where she met the love of her life Joseph A. Pina. They wed on September 12, 1949. While raising her family Helen worked as a bookkeeper for Meadowbrook and Pina Coal Co. She then worked for the Credit Bureau of Indiana County for many years. Most of all, Helen was gracious, kind, and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was a woman with many talents. She spent hours knitting afghans, slippers and sweaters for those she loved. She was excellent cook and pie maker. Helen is survived by one son and three daughters, Jon J Pina and companion Gloria Strong, Jade Reinard, Kathryn Meals, Stacy Woods and husband Glenn, all of Indiana: seven grandchildren, Joseph and wife Marcie, Canica and husband Jordan, Melanie, Jesse and wife Charity, Tiara, Isaac, Natalie; five great grandchildren, Alyssa, Logan, Dylan, Clayton Ramsey, and Lilyana. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Frank Zellman, Ellsworth Rumbaugh and Frank Pina; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph A. Pina in 2004, her grandson Clayton Meals, and by her sister Billie Ruth Verstine. Mrs. Pina was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux RC Church and had attended St. Thomas Univeristy Parish, both of Indiana. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana; A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 A.M. at St. Thomas More University Parish, Indiana, with the Rev. Michael Sikon the celebrant. Interment will be made in the St. Bernard Cemetery.
