Helen Irene Hildebrand Myers, 91, of Indiana, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at the Communities of Indian Haven.  Born on May 12, 1928 in North East, PA to Reverend Doctor Clinton and Hazel Bartow Hildebrand, she had two brothers, Clinton Jr. and Theodore, as well as three sisters, Elinor, Ruby, and Constance.

Helen is survived by her husband of 69 years, Paul; her sister Constance; daughters, Susan Adams, Lynn Kennedy, and Jill (Harry) Morningstar; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The Hildebrand family moved frequently to serve various parishes throughout Pennsylvania: Grove Chapel, Ligonier, Chicora,   and Connellsville.  Helen graduated from Corry High School in 1946. She completed her first year of college at Arizona State University in Tempe and graduated with a teaching degree at Indiana Teacher's College, now IUP, in 1952.

In October 1949, Helen was introduced to Paul Myers by a mutual friend on the IUP campus. They have been together ever since. Paul was drafted in the Korean War so they married on October 13, 1950 before he left for basic training. When Paul returned in 1953, they settled in Indiana where they began their life together.

After many years staying at home with her daughters, Helen went to work as a teacher's aide in reading at Indiana Junior High School where for 20 years she taught English language skills to struggling students.

Helen has been a devoted member of the Lutheran church for her entire life. Her church home is Zion Lutheran in Indiana. There she has sung in the choir, taught Sunday school, was in the altar guild, served as Eucharistic Minister, helped with the church newsletter and was part of WELCA.  She and Paul would help decorate the church for the Advent season.

Helen's passions were music, painting, traveling, and her grandchildren. She loved singing and listening to all kinds of music and she returned to watercolor painting in her later years. She was a loving and caring grandma and enjoyed nothing more than being together with her family.

Helen's  family will receive friends on Saturday, December 28, 2019 from 10:00 AM until 10:30 AM, the time of her memorial service, at Zion Lutheran Church, Indiana.  Pastor Tedd Cogar will officiate.  www.bowserminich.com
