Obituary

Harry E. McFarland, 84, of Indiana, passed away on August 21, 2014 at Indiana Regional Medical Center. He was born in 1930 to H. Rhymer and Alberta (Henderson) McFarland in Turtle Creek. Harry was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, Indiana. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Air Force. Harry attended Slippery Rock State Teachers College, where he received his BA degree in Education. He then attended Temple University where he received his Masters degree in Education Administration. He worked as an elementary principal for the Indiana Area School District. Harry was a long time Boy Scout Leader and Red Cross Volunteer. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Martha McFarland of Indiana; two sons and a daughter. David A. McFarland and wife Colleen, Kittanning; Robert B. McFarland, Inwood, WV; Amy McFarland Snyder and husband Ken, Annandale, VA; six grandchildren, Elizabeth McFarland, Patrick McFarland, Kayla McFarland, Ryan McFarland, Brandon Snyder, Kayley Snyder; and two great grandchildren, Landyn and Logan; a brother Howard R. McFarland Jr. and wife Olga, Gibsonia; a sister Audrey Pepper, Monroeville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a great grandchild - Gabriel McFarland, and a brother - Edward McFarland. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-5 PM at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. Visitation will also be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Monday at the Calvary Presbyterian Church, Indiana, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM with Reverend David Hanna and Reverend Richard Cassel officiating. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross, 610 Kolter Drive, Indiana, PA 15701 or Calvary Presbyterian Church, 695 School Street, Indiana, PA 15701.
