Obituary

Harold R. Irvin, age 96, of Indiana, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Moorehead House, Indiana. He was in 1916 in Altoona, to James and Mary Harman Irvin. Harold was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux R.C. Church, Indiana, Indiana Lions Club, BPOE #931, Telephone Pioneers, and a life member of the VFW Post #1989. He was a veteran of WW II having served in the 8th US Army Air Corp. Mr. Irvin was employed by Bell Telephone for 32 years as an outside plan engineer. He was also employed as a PA State Trooper for 3 years prior to his military service and proudly served as a part of the security detail at the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. He enjoyed traveling, hanging out at McDonalds, eating out, playing cards, cooking, history, politics, socializing with people, and had a joke for any occasion. Harold is survived by one daughter and one son, Sharon A. Valenti, Safety Harbor, FL; Thomas K. Irvin and wife Laura, Indiana; four grandchildren, Aaron Valenti, Baltimore, MD; Melissa Valenti Heller and husband Craig, Marietta, GA; Jessica Kissell and husband Chris, Swissvale; Sara Sylvester and husband Nate, Johnson City, TN; three great grandchildren, Sophie Heller, Ben Kissell, and Luke Sylvester. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife Josephine Keller Irvin in 1996, by and infant daughter Judith Ann, and by three brothers and three sisters, Melvin, Clarence, Victor, Dorothy Weller, Martha Seidel, and Virginia Swartz. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 A.M. at St. Bernard of Clairvaux R.C. Church, Indiana, with the Rev. Fr. William Kiel the celebrant. Private interment will be made in the Oakland Cemetery, Indiana. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Post #1989 at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice, 850 Hospital Rd., Suite 3000, Indiana, PA 15701.
