Harry Melvin Stewart, 94, of Brush Valley, completed his journey home when he died peacefully, Thursday, 15 September at his home in Brush Valley, PA. He was born in 1922, in Dilltown to Joshua Harrison and Blanche (Tomb) Stewart. Melvin lived in Brush Valley, PA his entire life. He was a graduate of Armagh High School and the International Correspondence School with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was an Army Veteran having served during WW2. Melvin was employed by Bethlehem Steel in Johnstown, PA where he worked for 42 years until his retirement. He was known as a handyman and frequently could be found around Brush Valley helping to repair electrical wiring, pumps and furnaces for his friends and neighbors. He was a member of the Brush Valley United Methodist Church and an officer in the Brush Valley Cemetery Association for many years. He also served for 18 years as a board member of the United School District Board of Education during which time they constructed the current High School building. Melvin was a loving and devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife of over 69 years Miriam (Sauers) Stewart, daughters, Carol (Bert) Moore of New Brighton and Kim (Cory) Chambers of Glenford, OH; sons Mark (Mona) Stewart of Brush Valley, PA, Kevin (Susan) Stewart of La Grange, IL, and Lance Stewart of Brush Valley, PA, his grandchildren Chris Moore, Gavin, Aaron and Colin Stewart, great grandson Aidan Oneto and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sisters Kathryn George of Brush Valley, PA and Anna Mae Davis of Indiana, PA. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Wayne (Alma), Charles (Lila Rae), Raymond (Betty) and Clarence (Roene); Sisters Estella (Harry) Sharp, Elda (Frank) Findley and Ora Louise Stewart; and brothersinlaw Halcy George and Eugene Davis. The family wishes to thank Hospice and caregiver Barb Windows for their compassionate care. Friends will be received Sunday 18 September, 2016 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Bowser Minich Funeral Home in Indiana, PA. An additional viewing will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 AM Monday followed by a celebration of life service at the Brush Valley United Methodist Church, 200 Valley View Rd, Homer City, PA 15748 with the Reverend John Logan officiating. Interment will follow at the Brush Valley cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Melvin's honor to the Brush Valley United Methodist Church, 200 Valley View Rd, Homer City, PA 15748 or the Brush Valley Cemetery Association, C/O Dave Overdorff, 5290 Route 259 Highway, PO Box 204, Brush Valley, PA 15720.
