H. Glen George's Obituary

H. Glen George, age 84, of Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Bethany Place. He was born in 1930 in Homer City, to Halcy W. and Effie Brown George. Mr. George was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Indiana, and a former member of the Armagh United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the PSEA and the NEA. A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the US Army until his discharge in 1956. Glen graduated from IUP in 1960 with a BS in education, and in 1962 with a Masters degree in education. He received the National Science Foundation Grants in the summers of 1962 at the University of PA, Philadelphia; in 1964 at the University of CA, Berkley; in 1966 at Brown University, Rhode Island; in 1968 at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh; and in 1970 at Bowdoin University, Maine. He was employed for 30 years at United High School, Armagh, where he taught Chemistry and Physics. Glen loved golfing and spending time with his entire family. He enjoyed making wooden toys for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Betty Jean (Mack) George, Indiana; two sons - Bradley A. George, MD and his wife Angela, Atlanta, GA; Jonathan C. George and wife Lisa, Valancia; daughter-in-law - Pamela Kniss George, Mechanicsburg; nine grandchildren - Jennifer Harry and husband Pete, Michael George and wife Katye, Katie, Amanda, Nicole, Elizabeth, Andrew, Laura, and Ian George; three great grandchildren - Justice and Paxton Harry, Gideon George; one brother - John McLaughin and wife Sandra, Sebring, OH. Glen was preceded in death by his parents and his son - Gregory G. George. Friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 A.M. at the Grace United Methodist Church, Indiana, with the Pastor Kathy Mihoerck officiating. Private interment will be made in the Armagh Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Post #1989 at Grace United Methodist Church.
