Gilbert E. Hoffman's Obituary

Rev. Gilbert E. Hoffman, age 88, if Indiana, passed away, Thursday, December 9, 2010 at his home. He was born in 1922, to Josiah and Goldie Cage Hoffman. Rev. Hoffman was currently a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Indiana. He served the Methodist Church for 35 years at Erie, Sharon, Pittsburgh where he was District Superintendant of the Pittsburgh District, Grove City, and retired from the Kittanning Church. Rev. Hoffman was a graduate of Allegheny College and Wesley Seminary. A veteran of WW II, Lt. Hoffman served as a pilot in the US Army Airforce. Gilbert developed an interest in wood carving, specializing in ducks and birds. Gilbert is survived by his wife of 68 years Henrietta Mann Hoffman, Indiana; one son and three daughters, Gil Hoffman and wife Irene, Centerville, MD; Barbara Kimmel and husband Garry, Indiana; Helen Flinn, Wyoming, MN; Ann Bragg and husband Rev. Donald Bragg, Parsipphany, NJ; six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, (whom he baptized, and was known as Papa G). He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his brother Reginald Hoffman. Friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where a funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 A.M. with the Rev. Brad Lauster officiating. Private interment will be made in the Oakland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund, c/o Grace United Methodist Church, 712 Church St., Indiana, PA 15701.
