Obituary

George A. Staruch, age 93, of Homer City, (Brush Valley Twp), passed away Sunday July 7, 2013 at his home that he and his wife built 50 years ago. He was born in 1920 in Portage, to John and Elizabeth Virtus Staruch. In the late 1930's, he played semi-pro football in Pitcairn. A veteran of WW II, he served in the US Army from 1942 through 1945. He was a life-member of the VFW Post 7412, Homer City. He was an avid bowler and bowled with VFW at Mohawk Lanes. He was first employed as a kid for local farmers and later by the Pennsylvania Railroad Lastly he was employed as a welder for FMC, Homer City. George is survived by his wife of 65 ½ years, Andree Gressley Staruch, Homer City; three grandsons and four great grandchildren, Terry Staruch, Homer City; Sean Staruch and wife Samantha, San Diego, CA; G. Robert Staruch, Maine; Aundrea, Tiara, Taylor, and Trevor Staruch. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his son George, Jr., and three brothers, John, Michael, and Edward Staruch. Friends will be received on Friday from 5 to 7 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where a funeral service will begin at 7 P.M. with the Rev. Thomas Spiker officiating. The Homer City VFW Post #7412 will provide military honors at the funeral home.
