Obituary

George W. Hood, age 87, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2013 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center. He was born in 1925 in Wexford, to George W. and Mary Alice Gustin Hood. George was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Marion, and was a Commissioned Lay Pastor for Kiskiminetas Presbytery for 40 years, preaching in churches without active pastors. George also served as Moderator of the Presbytery for three years. He was also a member of the Marion Center Lions Club and a volunteer for the Cancer Coalition where he established free prostate screening in Marion Center. A veteran of WW II, he served in the US Army Infantry in the Asiatic and European Theatre. He was employed as an elementary principal for the Marion Center Area Schools for 34 years. He received his Bachelor degree in education from Geneva College and a Master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. George enjoyed camping, spending time with his family, and gardening. George is survived by three sons and one daughter, Ronald G. Hood and wife Janelle, Blairsville; Gary A. Hood and wife Barbara, Marion Center; Elizabeth A. "Betsy" Sevin and husband Mark, Pittsburgh; Timothy W. Hood and wife Anita, Indiana; daughter-in-law Betsy Anne Hood Sisitki, Marion Center; 13 grandchildren, Matthew Hood and wife Christine, Andrew Hood and wife Jenelle, Cameron Willforth, Chad, Chase and Kacie Schultz, Jeanie Hertzler and husband Scott; Jonathan Hood and wife Heather, Timothy and Justin Hood, Caley Kuenzel and husband Robert, Kori Shearouse and husband David, Kelsey Sevin; eight great grandchildren, Alex Gruver and wife Shannon, Cole Gruver, Reed, Coleman and Wilson Hertzler, Jadyn and Riley Kuenzel, Maggie and Claire Hood. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife Elizabeth M. "Bee" Hood on April 20, 2013, and by an infant sister. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. Friends will also be received on Thursday from 10 to 11 A.M. at the Presbyterian Church of Marion where a funeral service will begin at 11A.M. with the Rev. Timothy Monroe officiating. Interment will be made in the Marion Center Memorial Cemetery.
