George R. Frycklund's Obituary

George Robert Frycklund, age 82, died peacefully Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center. He was born in 1927 in Cambria Co., to Ralph Sherwin and Olivia Rose William Frycklund He was a loving husband to Shirley Mae Arner Frycklund, his wife of 58 years. He graduated from Hastings High School, class President and Valedictorian in 1944. He enlisted in the US Army in 1944 and served stateside during WW II. He was Honorable Discharged in 1946 and enrolled at Penn State Univ. in 1947, joining the Acacia fraternity. He graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1951. He was employed by Philadelphia Electric Co. upon graduation and married Shirley Arner on July 28, 1951. He left Philadelphia Electric and joined Pennsylvania Electric Co. in 1953, where he was employed throughout the Generation Division until his retirement in 1989. George is survived by his wife Shirely Arner Frycklund; son David and wife Susan (Dettorre), Indiana, their sons Erik and wife Morgan, Brian and wife Megan, Bradley; his son Daniel and wife Melissa (Yekel), Hughesville, their son Nicholas and wife Jessica, their daughter Alyssa; their daughter Deborah and husband John Patterson, Jefferson, MD, and their sons Zachary and Joshua. He is also survived by siblings Ralph Frycklund, East Lake, OH; Barbara Kime and husband Bill, Congress, AZ; Bruce Frycklund and wife Gail, Elton; Mark Frycklund and wife Linda, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his granddaughter Sarah Olivia Frycklund. George was a 43 year member of Grace United Methodist in Indiana, serving the church in several capacities. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time on the water with his children and grandchildren. He was also a member of the Masonic fraternity and remained active in local politics and retirement social groups. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. Friends will also be received on Thursday from 10 to 11 A.M. at the Grace Church Parlor. A funeral service will begin at 11 A.M. with the Rev. Brad Lauster officiating. Private interment will be made in the Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully accepted for the Sarah Olivia Frycklund Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Sovereign Bank, Main St., Hughesville, PA 17737.
