Garnet E. "Boots" (Pierce) Sutton, 89 of Indiana, died on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Moorehead Place, Indiana, PA.
She was born in 1927 in Indiana to James O. and Cora M. (Singleton) Pierce.
Garnet lived her entire life in Indiana Borough and White Township. She graduated from Indiana High School in 1944. Garnet married her high school sweetheart on August 8, 1945.
She was employed as a telephone operator and a facilities assignor by the Bell Telephone & Bell Atlantic Telephone Companies for 35 years prior to her retirement in November, 1982.
Garnet attended Trinity United Methodist Church, was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers, a joint life member of the Good Sam Travel Club, a joint life member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Indiana County Historical Society.
She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and camping with her family at their privately owned campsite in Burnside Township, Clearfield County.
Garnet is survived by a son - Charles D. Sutton (Connie), Indiana, PA; daughter - Linda Russell (Joe Whitley) Creswell, NC; grandson - Craig P. Sutton (Johanna), Indiana, PA; granddaughter - Carrie L. Sutton-White (William), Indiana; granddaughter - Angela D. Russell, Virginia Beach, VA; sister-in-law - Margaret (Peg) Pierce, Indiana, PA; great grandchildren - Payton and Trent White, and Robert Sutton; three nieces whom she adored - Laura Rachocki, Cindy Rice, and Lisa Nicholson.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years - James P. Sutton, her parents, a sister Wava L. Ditch, a brother Robert J. Pierce, and a grandson Christopher L. Russell.
Friends will be received on Monday, January 2, 2017, from 1-2 p.m. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, PA. A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. on Monday with the Reverend Greg Golden officiating. Private interment will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery.
