Obituary

Florence Louise (Hill) Painter Florence Louise (Hill) Painter, 89, formerly of Plumville, died Aug. 20, 2012, in Mesa, Ariz. Mrs. Painter was born in 1922, on her family farm in Home, Pa., to Rollie and Dovie Hill. When she was a child during the Great Depression, she and her family sold fresh produce grown on the family farm at the Indiana farmers market. She attended Plumville High School, where she met Earl Painter. They were married in August 1942. The couple had celebrated their 70th anniversary a week before she passed away. Two weeks after they were married, Earl was called to active duty and served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. After the war, the Air Force took Florence, Earl and their children to Florida, Colorado, Illinois and Germany. When Earl retired from the Air Force in 1972, they moved back to Plumville and ran Painter's Appliance Center for the next 13 years. When the couple retired from the appliance business in 1985, they found enjoyment in travelling to the Andersonville National Historic Site in Andersonville, Ga., to volunteer with the U.S. Park Service there, as well as travelling to see their grandchildren. They also helped start the Ex-Prisoner of War, Southern Alleghenies Chapter. Mrs. Painter is survived by her husband of 70 years, Earl; three daughters, Dovie Bryant, Kathy Morris and Connie Hartig; three sons, Jim, John and Paul; three sisters, Mirriam Ross, Vida Holt and Connie McCall; two brothers, Harold and David Hill; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11:00 to 1:00 PM with a funeral service at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana at 1:00 PM with Pastor Katheryn Ward Stear officiating. Burial will take place in the Smicksburg Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to Courtyard Towers, 22 N. Robson, Mesa, AZ 85201. www.bowserminich.com
