Obituary

Evon Joyce (Wetzel) McCoy, age 69, lost her courageous battle with cancer and went to be with God on Friday, July 1, 2011. Born in 1941, in Wilgus, Montgomery Twp, to Russell John and Cora (Mumau) Wetzel, she spent her entire life as a resident of Indiana County. She was a 1959 graduate of Purchase Line High School and attended IUP. After graduation, she worked for the FBI in Washington, DC, for four years. She worked at IUP for 30 years, retiring in 2004. Prior to that employment, she worked in the Trust Department of SandT Bank for 2 years and in the law firm of Frye and Mack for 8 years. She also worked part-time as a bridal consultant at Kaufman's Bridal Shop in Indiana. She served as recording secretary for White Township for several years. She was a member of Graystone Presbyterian church where she served as nursery caregiver for more than 25 years. In addition, she served on the personnel committee for several years, was a volleyball coach for the church's team, and participated in their singles group. Evon enjoyed golfing, bowling, and participating in games' night and movie night with her friends. She enjoyed traveling with her sisters and family members to various locations. She participated in the following activities and organizations: Business and Professional Women's Club of Indiana where she served as secretary for two terms, and was a member of the finance, scholarship, and employer-of-the-year committees; PAUSE (Professional Association of University Staff Employees) where she served on the Professional Development Committee; American Heart Association/Multiple Sclerosis/Cancer as neighborhood volunteer; and enjoyed her membership in the Scarlett Ladies' Chapter of the Red Hat Society. She was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving are two daughters: Michele Rudge and husband, Robert, of Chambersburg, PA; and Brenda Belsar and husband, Frank, of Berlin, PA; four sisters: Louise McDivitt and fianc, Earl Prugh of Starford; Mary Grigg of Frederick, MD; Bonnie Weaver and husband, Willard, of Marion Center; and Leah Dean and husband, Brian, of Lucernemines; three brothers: Carl Wetzel and wife, Clarissa, of Edinburg; John Wetzel of Marion Center, and Richard Wetzel and fianc, Barbara Penich, of Home, PA. She was also blessed with seven grandchildren: Joel Machak and wife, Julie, of Fort Monroe, VA; Meagan Rudge of Chambersburg; Aaron Stockwell and wife, Kayla, of Indiana; Tyrel, Gavin and Nickolas Stockwell of Berlin, and Maryssa Nicklow of Somerset. She is also survived by 20 nieces and nephews and 44 great nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. A funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 A.M. at the Graystone Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. William Milligan officiating. Interment will be held at the Mausoleum in Oakland Cemetery at a later date.
