Dutch K. Gregory's Obituary

Layton K. "Dutch" Gregory, age 79, of Smicksburg, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center. He was born in 1936 in Erie to John A. and Alma A. Kline Gregory. Dutch was a member of the Bethany Chapel, Marion Center where he served as Trustee. He was a graduate of Fairview High School, Erie, Co. in 1955 and joined the US Navy. Dutch was a part of the commissioning crew of the USS Sargo, (the 3rd nuclear submarine commissioned by the US Navy), and his rank upon discharge was First Class Torpedo Man in charge of the Forward Torpedo Room. He was first employed by various factories in Erie, and was plant general manager of Hayes Manufacturing until 1970. He then became part owner of G & G Construction in Girard from 1971 to 1973. Following a brief employment with C.L. Wells & Sons, he was self-employed with Gregory Builders from 1974 to 2014 along with his son Scott. Dutch is survived by his wife of 57 years Deanna J. Elkin Gregory, one son and one daughter, Scott Gregory and wife Tammy, Smicksburg; Kelly McMeans and husband Kevin, Home; four granddaughters, Shannon McMeans, Bridget Canose and husband Nathan, Amber Gregory, Meghan McMeans and fiance' Brandon Strittmatter, one grandson, Eddie Sirochman and wife Gwen; three great grandsons, Brock and Jett Sirochman, Clark Canose; three brothers, Dave Gregory and wife Carol, Fairview; Jerry Gregory and wife Darlene, Girard; Jimmy Gregory and wife Jeanette, Albion; his mother-in-law Sara (Wells) Elkin DesChamp, Home; his brother-in-law Alan Elkin and wife Debbie, Rochester Mills; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jack and Bob Gregory, his father-in-law Ray R. Elkin. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. A funeral service will be held Monday at Bethany Chapel, Marion Center, at 11 A.M. with the Pastor Brian King officiating. Interment will be made in the Gilgal Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be provided at the cemetery.
