On Monday, May 21st, Dorothy Ruth Rising Shubra of Indiana passed from this life while under the compassionate care of professionals at St. Andrew's Village and VNA Hospice. A loving daughter of John William Rising and Edna Emma (Brickell) Rising, she celebrated 90 years of a wonderful life. Dorothy was an active member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church in Indiana where she participated in the prayer chain. She retired at age 70 as secretary of the Criminology Department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania for a total of 22 years of service. She loved exercise and joined the YMCA to swim and stay active. She supported American Legion Post 141 activities and provided a land grant to Voiture 40 and 8 of Indiana. She served as a secretary for the local AARP for 2 years and was also a member of Retired Public Employees of Pennsylvania Sub Chapter 8301. Dorothy enjoyed reading, travel, cooking, crossword puzzles, shorthand and gardening after spending 20 years as a farmer's wife at Cherry Hill Acres Farm. She held her family and friends closest to her heart and took great pride in the accomplishments of her 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren (Renee, Kelly, Sarah and Luke). She is survived by her eldest son, Charles Shubra and wife Leigh of Indiana and their children -Elizabeth and husband Robert Redd, Christopher and fiance Alexis Smith, Emily, Alyssa and Alex, her daughter Donna Thachik and husband Stephen of Maryland and their daughters - Sasha, Kusha and Stefani Leigh, and her youngest son, Andrew Shubra and wife Leigh and their children Kendell, Kimberly and fiance Mike Inman and Keith. Also one surviving sister, Genevieve Brady, of Glen Campbell. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 25 years, Charles, and a daughter Patricia, 2 sisters Josephine Lambert, Geraldine Kosker and brother Floyd Rising. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 25 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9pm at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home on Ben Franklin Road. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 26 at 11:00 am. at St. Bernard's of Clairvaux Church in Indiana followed by interment at St. Patrick's Cemetary in Cameron's Bottom. Memorial donations may be made to VNA Hospice at 850 Hospital Road, Suite 3000, Indiana, PA or St. Bernard's of Clairvaux School, 200 Clairvaux Drive, Indiana, PA.
