Dorothy E. "Dottie" (Towsey) Joyner, age 99, formerly of Indiana, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot, PA.
She was born in Blairsville on December 12, 1922 to the late David B. and Bessie (Matthews) Towsey. Dottie was married to her late husband, William "Chet" Joyner, for 66 years prior to his death on December 23, 2009.
She was a 1938 graduate of Blairsville High School. Soon after he enlisted in the US Army, Dottie married her husband Chet in June of 1943. He was then ordered to Scotland, then landed in Normandy in June 1944. He served as a Combat Engineer in the European theater. While Chet was overseas, Dottie was employed by Federal Labs, a defense contractor near Blairsville, until the war ended in 1945. She was later employed as a food service worker by the Indiana Area School District for nearly 20 years.
Dottie was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church and the AARP Indiana Evergreen Chapter #2581.
Mary is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Ann (Gerald) Wetzel and Suzanne Faye (David) Nupp, three grandchildren, Melanie (Floyd) Craycraft, Robert (Amy) Nupp and Steven P. Wetzel, four great granddaughters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brothers George M. and Robert L. Towsey.
At Dottie's request all services and interment in the Oakland Cemetery, Indiana, were private. The Rev. Richard Cassel (retired) officiated.
The Bowser-Minich Funeral Home was entrusted with all arrangements.
