Donnella R. Sutton's Obituary

Donnella R. Sutton, age 97, of Indiana, formerly of Black Lick, died Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at her residence. She was born in 1917 in Graceton, to Floyd and Estella Weber Phillippi. Mrs. Sutton graduated from Indiana State Teachers' College with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education. She began her teaching career in Center Twp. and retired from the Burrell Twp. Elementary School after 26 years. Mrs. Sutton was the oldest living member of the Black Lick United Methodist Church, where she had previously taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Blairsville; and the Alpha Delta Kappa Education Sorority. Donnella was active in the Ladies' Golf Assoc. at Chestnut Ridge and played until the age of 92. She was also a volunteer at the Indiana Regional Medical Center and taught students learning English as a second language. She is survived by one son and one daughter - Dr. Louis Sutton and wife Virginia, Indiana; Jeanne McClure and husband William, Kingsport, TN; six grandchildren - Sherry Martini and husband Dr. Robert; Shelly Titchen and husband Douglas; Valerie Sutton; Eugene Sutton; Julie Tyrrell and husband Richard; Jill McClure; nine great grandchildren - Alexa, Breanna, Lauren, and Alaina Titchen; Abigail, Robert, and Alison Martini; Colleen and Katherine Tyrrell. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eugene R. Sutton in 2007, four brothers and three sisters - Charles, Louis, Kenneth, and Woodrow Phillippi, Arlene Thompson, Corrine Deike, and Marilyn Middleton. Friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where a funeral service will be held Friday at 11 A.M. with the Rev. Brett Dinger officiating. Interment will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana.
