Obituary

Donald Clair Stear, age 74, of Home, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Armstrong Co. Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in 1939 in Smicksburg, to Clair O. "Steve" and Thelma Wagner Stear. Mr. Stear was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church of Plumville having served as a Sunday School teacher. He was also a life member of the Dayton Sportsman Club, the NRA, and active in the Smicksburg Historical Society. Don served in the US National Guard from 1958 to 1966. He was a graduate of the Marion Center High School and received his Bachelor and Master Degrees from IUP in Education. He was employed by the Marion Center High School for 31 years as a Social Studies teacher, and also as a Drivers' Education teacher. Additionally, he taught a hunter safety course for 25 years. Don enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, showing his classic Pontiac, and genealogy. He and his family operate a Christmas tree farm near Plumville. Donald is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Hollenbaugh Stear, Home; two sons and one daughter - Randy Stear and wife Kathryn Ward Stear, Indiana; Donald Stear and wife Jan, Sagamore; Sherri Kutsch and husband Jamie, Home; eight grandchildren - Leah, Lori, Jordan, Shawnee, and Braden Stear, Kara, Alaina, and Ian Kutsch; one sister - Evelyn Seibel, Newville; brothers-in-law - Gary Hollenbaugh and wife Karen, York; Joseph Bobbitt, Chesapeake, VA; sister-in-law Roberta Melby, Soleburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three infant grandchildren, his in-laws - Howard and Ruth Hollenbaugh, two brothers-in-law - Lee Seibel, Ken Hollenbaugh, and by a sister-in-law Doris Bobbitt. Friends will be received on Sunday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. Visitation will also be held on Monday from 10 to 11 A.M. at the Presbyterian Church of Plumville where a funeral service will begin at 11 A.M. with the Rev. R. Bruce Shannon and the Rev. Kathryn Ward Stear officiating. Interment will be made in the Smicksburg Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Church of Plumville, PO Box 422, Plumville, PA 16246.
