Delores P. Labay's Obituary

Delores P. Labay, age 88, of Sagamore, passed away Monday, December 8, 2014 at her home and the house in which she was born in 1926 in Sagamore, to Michael and Stella Rutosky Slencsak. Delores graduated from Cowanshannock Twp. High School in 1945. She then attended and graduated from Mason Felix Beauty Academy in Pittsburgh in 1946. For fifty seven years Delores owned and operated Delores Beauty Shop in Sagamore, a profession she truly enjoyed. In 1950 she married Theodore "Ted" Labay. Delores loved baking cookies, and she was known for her angel strudel. She was the happiest when she was preparing holiday meals for her family and spending time with her children, her extended family and friends. No one ever left Delores' house hungry or without a doggy bag of food to take home. She also enjoyed decorating her home for every holiday with her handmade ceramics. Delores was a former member of the Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Sagamore, and was currently a member of St. Mary Mother of God R.C. Church, Yatesboro. Delores is survived by one daughter and one son, Charlene "Char" L. Kopchick and husbamd John, Athens, OH; Theodore A. Labay, Saraland, AL; her sister-in-law Julia Labay, brother-in-law Fred Labay and wife Norma, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Theodore G. "Ted" Labay in 2004, by her brother Marcus Slencsak, and by her sister Virginia Druchniak. Friends will be received on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 A.M. at St. Mary, Mother of God Roman Catholic Church, Yatesboro, with the Rev. Fr. Douglas Dorula, the celebrant. Interment will be made in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Sagamore. Finally at peace after an eight year stuggle with her health, Delores would want to thank her wonderful neighbors - Betty Brice and Bob Weaver for their constant help throughout the years; Mary Lou Morales, Teresa Henry, and Lorraine Craig - her devoted caregivers who enabled her to remain in her home; The VNA, the Communities at Indian Haven, as well as her friends and extended family who helped her during this lengthy illness. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA, 850 Hospital Road, Suite 3000, Indiana, PA 15701.
