David M. Lynch's Obituary

Dr. David M. Lynch, age 63, of Penn Run, formerly of Belle Vernon, passed away August 13, 2010 at Beacon Ridge Nursing Home, Indiana. He was born in 1946 in Monongahela, to Minor and Helen Fridgen Lynch. He was a graduate of the Rostraver High School, Belle Vernon, PA, St. Vincent College, Latrobe, PA, and earned his doctorate at West Virginia Univ. He began his academic career at Salem College in Salem, WV as head of the Political Science Dept. In 1981, he was appointed and served as Associate Dean of the Graduate School and Research at IUP. Indiana, PA, until he was named Dean in 1986, where he spent many happy and fulfilling years until his retirement in 2003. Prior to his retirement he was the sponsor, funder, and creative director of the monument "Consilience" that currently sits in Stright Plaza, the graduate school entrance. He authored many professional articles and publications, and earned numerous grants for the university. He also traveled doing presentations and consulted for various colleges across the country. David is survived by his loving and significant lifetime partner, Joanne Leeper Lynch, Penn Run; two daughters, Jennifer Lieb and husband Bernard, Penn Run; Melissa Lynch, Penn Run; one granddaughter, Allison Lieb; his mother of Belle Vernon; one brother, Dr. William J. Lynch and wife Kathleen, Brookville; many nieces and nephews; and his dog Bo. He was preceded in death by his father Minor G. Lynch. Friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, 500 Ben Franklin Road South, Indiana, where a parish Vigil service will be held Monday at 3:45 P.M. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 A.M. at St. Bernard of Clairvaux R.C. Church, Indiana, with the Rev. Fr. William Kiel the celebrant. Interment will be made in the St. Bernard Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA, 850 Hospital Rd., Suite 3000, Indiana, PA 15701.
