David C. Hughes, MD, 85 of Indiana, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024. He was born on December 9, 1938, in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, to the late David and Helen (Hecksher) Hughes.
David graduated from Ridley Park High School, then attended Muhlenberg College, where he met his future wife, Nedra, whom he married on January 30, 1956. After graduation, he attended and graduated from The Medical College of Virginia in 1965. Dr. Hughes attended his post graduate Residency through 1969 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA, specializing in otolaryngology. Afterwards, he joined the United States Army, and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, with his family for many years until his discharge, achieving the rank of Major. He and his family moved to Indiana, PA, where he established David Hughes M.D., a medical practice specializing in ear, nose and throat surgery and allergy specialist. Dr. Hughes served his community and Indiana Regional Medical Center for over 35 years where he was elected Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery. In addition, he was also on the Medical Staff at Ear, Nose and Throat -UPMC, Department of Otolaryngology Pittsburgh PA.
Dr. Hughes was a member of the Indiana County Medical Society as well as the Indiana Bow and Gun Club. He was an avid hunter, gun collector, and target shooter. David especially enjoyed spending time with his wife and family.
Known for his many insightful sayings, one favorite is "It doesn't cost anything to do someone a favor".
Dr. Hughes is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nedra Jane (Moyer) Hughes, a son David Hughes of Indiana, a daughter April Hughes of Indiana, and grandchildren Ryan and Megan Hughes of Pittsburgh, and Taylor (Colton) Hiner of Youngstown, OH.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Hughes was preceded in death by a sister Nancy Felker.
At David's request, all services will be private and have been entrusted to the care of the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana.
