Daniel J.
Ling
November 25, 2016
Daniel J. Ling, age 48 of Shelocta, died Friday, November 25, 2016 as a result of an accident in Young Twp. near his home.
He was born in 1968 in Indiana to Jay R. and Carole A. Calabria Ling of Indiana, PA.
Daniel was a 1968 graduate of Indiana High School and attended IUP.
He was a trained lineman electrician working on high power transmissions and distribution for the IBEW Local 126, often traveling widely to restore power to areas hit by hurricanes and tornadoes. His greatest reward was seeing smiles and gratitude on the faces of people after getting power.
He was married to Natalie A. Varhola Ling since 2012, and they resided in their nature woodland area with an abundance of wildlife they both loved. They were avid Steelers, Penguins, and Pirate fans, attending home games together as often as possible to support their teams.
A skilled hunter since the age of 12, his many buck trophies and mounted turkeys give testament to his hunting ability and archery skill.
Daniel was known throughout the country for his expertise in vintage glass and ceramic insulators. As a member of both the National Insulators Assoc. and the Western Reserve Insulator Club, he attended and presented at National Insulators Shows throughout the States always displaying the highly sought pieces from his extensive personal collection.
He loved nothing better than to talk for hours helping others identify insulators.
He is survived by his wife, his parents, and a sister.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Charles and Verna Ling of Ernest, and maternal grandparents Dominec and MaryAnn Calabria of Ebensburg, as well as Nikki his beloved German Shepherd of over 18 years.
Friends will be received on Monday from 6 to 9 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. Funeral services will be private.
Daniel will be greatly missed by his wife, mother and father, family, friends, co workers and fellow collectors.
