Charles W. States' Obituary

Charles W. States, age 91, of Indiana, died Sunday, June 6, 2010 at Communities of Indian Haven. He was born 1918 in Glen Campbell to Daniel M. and Mary Marks States. Charlie was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, as a Trustee, and as a member of the Budget and Education Committee. He was also a member and chairman of RSVP, past Master of the Pamona Grange, past Master of the Armstrong Grange #1645, the Kiwanis Club, past Treasurer of NAACP, the Indiana Co. Democratic Party, and a lifetime member of the VFW Post #1989. A veteran of WW II, Charlie served in the US Army in the CMP 800th BTL, 6th Army and served in the Military Police during the Japanese occupation. He was employed as a supervisor in the construction industry for 20 years, working in the Pittsburgh and Indiana areas. He was then employed as a safety inspector for the PA Dept. of Labor and Industry for 15 years. In 1986 he became an important part of the Bowser-Minich staff until his retirement in 2000. Charlie is survived by one son and three daughters, Mary S. Speicher and husband James, Crystal Lake, IL; Tris Nelson and husband Gregory, Minneapolis, MN; Charles W. States, II, and wife Susan, Richmond, VA; Catherine S. Drost and husband Albin, Huntsville, AL; six grandchildren, Katherine and Daniel Speicher; Gregor, Charles, and Yale Nelson; and Travis Drost. He is also survived by the following siblings, Mildred Thayer, Indiana; Geneva Williams, Johnstown; Edna Parks, Indiana; Lynn States and wife Carol, Johnstown; Merl States and wife Jean, Round Rock, TX; David States and wife Joyce, Pryor Lake, MN; Jean Fulton, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife Beatrice Lambing States in 2007, and by two brothers William and James States. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 A.M. with the Rev. Brad Lauster officiating. Interment will be made in the Marion Center Memorial Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be provided by the VFW Post #1989.
