Obituary

Charles (Junior) G. Shoup, 84, of Brush Valley, passed away Monday, May 13, 2013 at Bethany Place in Indiana. He was born in 1929 to Charles B. and Evelyn (Cline) Shoup in Colver, Cambria County. Charles was married to Bernice V. (Gray) Shoup on July 17, 1952, and had 58 wonderful years together. Charles was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Brush Valley. He was active in his church serving as custodian, usher, trustee, administrative council and attended church conferences. While attending high school he worked as a night watchman for the Hesh Bon Coal Company in Heshbon, PA. He retired from Bethlehem Steel in Johnstown in 1985 after 33 years of employment. Following his retirement he served as Brush Valley Township Supervisor for 10 years. Charles enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge from active service, he served with the United States Army Reserves in Indiana, PA. Charles was a Life member of the VFW Post 1989 in Indiana. He is survived by two sons and two daughters. Charles A. Shoup and wife Mary Ann, Saltillo, MS; Dianne K. Dougan, and husband William, Brush Valley; Donald C. Shoup and wife Joyce, Blairsville; Debra L. Shoup, Windber; Five grandchildren, Jodi Blasi and husband Christopher (Chris), Irwin; Roxanne (Roxy) Mazzeo, Brush Valley; Curtis Shoup, Blairsville; Sena Hockenberry, Pittsburgh; and Thaddeus (Kris) Hockenberry, Windber. Two great grandchildren, Carter Blasi, Irwin; and Martin Hanson, Brush Valley; a brother Orville (Buddy) Shoup, and wife Helen, Clyde; a sister-in-law Betty Lou Shoup, Johnstown, (Mundys Corner); a brother-in-law D. Howard Gray and wife Elizabeth, Wellsboro; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bernice V. Shoup on September 16, 2010, a granddaughter Tina Marie Craig Duncan, and a brother Curtis (Jack) R. Shoup. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Thursday at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Tom Spiker Hospice Chaplain of Indiana County officiating. Burial will take place in the Brush Valley Cemetery. Military honors will be performed by the Indiana VFW Post 1989. www.bowserminich.com
