May 3, 1939 – November 25, 2023
Carol J. Young, 84, of Indiana, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Beacon Ridge Nursing Home.
She was born on May 3, 1939, in Spangler, the daughter of the late Clarence and Ellen (Morris) Hunter.
After graduating from John Carroll High School, she attended Youngtown University Business School. She went on to work for United Natural Gas Company in Oil City, PA until 1965, when she married Howard Young. They moved to Eastlake, OH where she worked as a bookkeeper for Propane Industrial Service until 1973, when they moved to Indiana, PA. It was here that she worked for several businesses for a number of years.
Carol was a member of Shelocta Community Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder, a Deacon, and the past assistant Sunday School coordinator. She was also a past member of the West Lebanon Volunteer Fire Company and the Red Barn Sportsman Club.
She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, boating and camping.
Surviving are three sons, Howard E. (Penny) Young, Jr. of Mt. Airy, NC, Roger L. Young and Rodney D. (Lisa) Young both of Indiana; seven grandchildren, Samantha Marie, Colby L., Sarah Kay, Robert L., Rebecca L., Shayla, and Nicholas; as well as eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Howard E. Young, Sr. in 2008., and her brother, Richard Hunter in 2023.
Friends will be received by the family on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 3-5 & 7-9 pm, at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, 500 Ben Franklin Road S, Indiana, where the service will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 11 am with Rev. Jack Lucas officiating. Interment will follow in Elderton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in care of Congenital Heart Defects Awareness at www.heart.org, in honor of Connor Labryer or St. Jude's Research Center for Children at www.stjude.org.
