It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Carl William Trout, who entered eternal rest at the age of 97 on August 19, 2025. Born September 11, 1927, in Alverda, Pennsylvania, he was the beloved son of the late Alvin McKinley and Sophia (Woods) Trout.

At the age of 17, Carl sought to enlist in the military. Due to his young age, he was required to have permission from a parent. His father signed permission for him to enter the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country for four years beginning in the last 6 months of World War II. Following a brief period in civilian work, he reenlisted, this time with the United States Air Force, where he served for an additional 19 years. His total military service encompassed World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. During his time in the military, Carl was part of several atomic bomb tests in the Enewetak Islands in the Pacific. Carl's commitment and sacrifice left a lasting mark on his family, his community, and his nation.

Upon retiring from the armed forces, Carl continued to dedicate himself to hard work and service, spending time employed with Halliburton. A man deeply connected to nature, Carl was an avid outdoorsman who cherished hunting, hiking, and spelunking, where he has been pictured in textbooks. He was a proud member of the Blacklick Creek Watershed Association, Friends of the Park, and the Indiana Bird Club. His dedication to conservation and community service was widely recognized, and he was honored as Indiana County Volunteer of the Year.

Carl will be fondly remembered for his warmth, humor, wisdom, and his cherished morning coffee gatherings at local establishments with his "coffee buddies".

He is survived by his children: Susan Irene (Mark) Strickland-Oswalt of Indiana; Gregory (Claudia) Trout of Indiana; and Bryan (Shelly) Trout of Latrobe. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ramona (Morrow) Strickland-Trout; his daughter Sharon L. Strickland, his son James L. Strickland; sisters Ruth Dudash, Dorothy Oliver, and Louise Courier; and brothers Paul and Norman Trout.

In accordance with Carl's wishes, all services were held privately and entrusted to the care of Bowser Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. Burial took place at Oakland Cemetery, Indiana, with full military honors.
