Brian J. Hughes, age 83, of Indiana, died Monday, February 20, 2017 at his home.

He was born in 1933 in Pittsburgh to John J. and Salena M. Burns Hughes.

Mr. Hughes was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvuax Roman Catholic Church, Indiana, the VFW Post #1989, and the American Chemical Society.

A veteran of the Korean War he served as a medic in the US Army and Reserves in the Field Artillery Branch. He attended the University of Pittsburgh majoring in Engineering. His engineering career included positions at Crucible Steel, Bureau of Mines, FMC (formerly known as Syntron) culminating in the establishment of C.K.E. Inc. in 1980 where he was co-owner and served as Vice President of manufacturing at plants in Indiana and Lucernmines.

An avid golfer he also enjoyed fishing and tennis. One of his greatest personal joys was watching his children and grandchildren engage in sports activities.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Martina L. Bryson Hughes, Indiana; five daughters, Lisa M. Pacconi, Indiana; Barbara L. Hughes, Colorado Springs, CO; Kathleen L. Whitesel and husband Dale, Indiana; Judith A. Kline and husband Steve, Schererville, IN; Mary Beth Woodring, and husband Jeff, Blairsville; 12 grandchidren, Michael Pacconi and wife Jennifer, Matthew Pacconi, Tricia Whitesel, Patrick Whitesel and wife Amber, Lindsay, Ashley, Jake, Kelly and Christopher Kline; Tara Lichtenfels, Brian Lichtenfels and wife Trisha,and Erin Markovitz and husband David. He is also survived by six great grandchildren, Nicolas and Kira Pacconi, and Myles and Talon Markovitz, Kaia and Kaleo Lichtenfels, by his sister Mary Margaret Stevens, CA; a family friend Diane Morrissey, CO; and by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by the following siblings, Thomas, Patrick, John, Mark, Edmond Hughes, Francis Burns, Rosemary Hughes, Keiran Hughes.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate a funeral mass on Thursday at 11 A.M. at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church, Indiana. Interment will be made in the St. Bernard Cemetery.
